Flora Jane Coutts papers, 1920-1970.

The collection consists of the diaries, notebooks, photographs, postcards, letters, and miscellaneous Vermontiana of Flora Jane Coutts of Newport, Vt., for the period 1920-1970. Coutts' notebooks make up a sizable part of the collection. They are part diary and part "to do" lists kept from 1958 to 1973. In diaries from an earlier period, Coutts recorded her travel and experiences while teaching in Korea from 1921 to 1924. The few letters in the collection describe Coutts' teaching experience in Korea and her experiences with the Red Cross from 1943 to 1945. The extensive photograph collection includes portraits of Coutts; the Vermont State Senate, ca. 1937, in which she is the only woman present; Korea in the 1920s; Pyengyang Foreign School; India and China during the 1940s; Vermont towns and road signs from the 1950s; and Vermont publicity photographs from the 1940s and 1950s.
